A "rite of passage" so to speak for sophomore pre-vet students at the University of Findlay is barn duty. As 2nd year undergrads, we take a course called Animal Nutrition. 20% of this class grade is based on our barn duty. This duty requires each student to go out to the barn one day a week, and one weekend a semester, to feed the animals and generally keep up the care of the pre-vet barn. There are 10 shifts a week, 6-8 am and pm Monday through Friday. Michelle signed up for a 6am Tuesday shift, and I was forced into a 6am Friday shift. So we pre-vets, who others I'm sure claim are whacked in the head, went out to the barn twice a week at 6am. Yes I know, we're just weird like that. Last week, however, Shell changed her day to Friday morning, so we'll only be going out there once a week from here on out.

Here's Michelle, having so much fun hauling a water bucket

See, I can be up and functioning at 6am!

This is our barn manager, Josh, who has to be out there EVERY morning at 6am (poor guy), as well as the one who decides what grade we get at the barn, and his dog, Dixie. A few weeks ago, however, Dixie was hit by a truck and killed.

Another part of Animal Nutrition class is creating a web page out of a term paper we write. My topic was exertional myopathy, and you used to be able to check out my website, but the link has since vanished (and I have no idea if it’s even in existence anymore) … so I guess you’re just out of luck. Sorry!

Carry on ...
